Celebrate America Recycles Day on November 15th, 2010

America Recycles Day (ARD), celebrated on November 15 every year, is dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products.
The purpose of America Recycles Day is to promote the social, environmental and economic benefits of recycling and to encourage more people to join the movement to create a better natural environment. Since the first America Recycles Day in 1997,  ARD has helped millions of Americans become better informed about the importance of recycling and buying products made from recycled materials.

Saving Energy on America Recycles Day  Recycling helps to conserve natural resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming.  According to the EPA, recycling one ton of aluminum cans saves the energy equivalent of 36 barrels of oil or 1,655 gallons of gasoline.   If a ton of cans is a little too much to visualize, consider this: recycling a single aluminum can saves enough energy to power a television for three hours. Yet, every three months, Americans toss enough aluminum into landfills to rebuild the entire U.S. fleet of commercial airplanes, according to the National Recycling Coalition.

About used oil recycling…

Millions of gallons of used oil are dumped every year. Every gallon can pollute over 1 million gallons of drinking water. Used oil that is dumped not only threatens the health of human life, but also plant, marine and wildlife.

The key to reducing the amount of used motor oil being dumped is to make it valuable at the site where it is generated. Businesses that generate used oil make used oil valuable by burning it for heat recovery.

Congress and the U.S. EPA have identified used oil dumping as a major problem. They have recognized the importance of putting used oil to valuable use. The 1980 Used Oil Recycling Act passed by Congress encourages the recycling of used oil on-site for heating. Thousands of small businesses actively use waste oil to produce heat or hot water. The energy recovery means millions of dollars in energy savings for the economy, and cleaner water for our families and the environment.

Used oil is a valuable resource…

Burning your waste oil on-site in a Clean Burn boiler or furnace is an ideal way to participate in recycling and add profits to your business. Small businesses save thousands of dollars a year that would have been spent to purchase virgin fuel oil or other energy sources, such as natural gas or propane.

Constant improvements in Clean Burn’s design of used-oil fired boilers and furnaces have increased efficiency and reduced emissions. All Clean Burn heaters are UL listed and EPA approved. Automatic fuel cutoffs and other safety features in combination with servicing and operational guidelines ensure that our waste oil heaters will function safely, cleanly and efficiently.

How you can help…

By encouraging small businesses to invest in a Clean Burn waste oil heater, you can help prevent millions of gallons of used oil from being transported by used oil haulers.  Or, if you own a small business which generates used oil, consider a Clean Burn waste oil heater as an alternative to having a used oil hauler take your valuable oil.  Used oil has a cradle-to-grave liability and generaters of used oil are responsible for the oil until it is burned or otherwise processed.   The most profitable method of ending cradle-to-grave liability for generators is to recycle it on-site as fuel in a Clean Burn furnace or boiler.  This method requires little handling, and is quick and efficient.
